Re: new 1889
I too ran out of 7625 a while back. using CB data for 1oz loads I've loaded AA hulls as follows: wad - CB 4100. primer - W209. power - 18.5 gr. International. pressure - 6700. velocity - 1190. Also as a fallback I've loaded AAs using black powder -- fun to shoot but not so much cleanup fun. I stoppe...

Here's the pics. Looks like the mortice used to hold metal plate is missing. Note: No metal protrudes out the bottom of the wood.

Re: Searching for Remington Gamemaster 760 BDL 5 Diamond Forend for 270
The 270 and 30-06 share the same brass - the 270 is a necked down version of the 30-06. I don't see why the fore end should differ.

Re: 1894 Forend Help
I do see a missing part. It's a threaded flat steel plate that slips into the wood at the rear. It's there to attach the rear of the iron. Shouldn't be hard to fabricate if you cannot find one. I can send a pix if needed.

Re: 1894 Forend Help
What you have is a model 1900 - not an 1894. The confusion arrises because the same patent dates are stamped on the forearm iron for both models. The serial numbers for 1900s begins with a 3 (3xxxxx) while the 1894 start with 1 (1xxxxx). Your 1900 was made in the last year of production - 1910. The ...

Re: Rifle identification
It's been awhile since I've reworked one but my best guess is that it's a converted military Mauser. Several model were made ('93, '98, '09 Argentine etc) and many were made for various countries. Remove the front scope mount and check for some sort of crest stamped on the breach. That should indica...

Model 51 safety
Just acquired a 51 in 380. I'm impressed by the safety feature that prevents the gun firing if the magazine is not installed. I assume this prevents accidental firing of "empty" guns when a forgotten shell was still in the chamber after the magazine had been removed. The question I have is...

Re: 1903 rolling block
The battle for San Juan Hill took place in 1898. The standard issue rifle for US forces in the Spanish - American War was the Krag in 30cal. This not to say that some irregular forces might have used a RB.

You may be able to drill (correct size) out the nipple and use an extractor to remove and replace the nipple. I've done that on several shotguns and Springfields with good success. Works with broken off bolts on lock plates as well.

The K grade was offered in 4 versions: K - steel barrels with extractors KE - steel barrels with ejectors KD - Damascus barrels with extractors KED - Damascus barrels with ejectors Yours appears to be a KE In addition, 26 and 33 are stamped on the lug - this indicates degree of choke. Remington used...

The first question is whether or not they have military inspection/acceptance marks. Photos and S/Ns would be helpful.

Re: Help with caliber confirmation #4 rolling block
One more crazy idea. I seem to remember that Russian rifle teams in the past would reload 22s. As I recall they used a drop of some sort of liquid primer, let it dry and reload. If and where this material is available and whether it would be legal I don't know. If available - it could put a whole bu...
