Re: Whitmore Hammer Lifter re-stock

The one I have now is the third one I've owned. The first two had too straight a stock - not enough drop for me. I like around 3" DAH with a 14 3/4" LOP. The first one had the stock epoxied back together so I couldn't bend it. Same with the second, just glued together in the lock area. The...

Re: E Remington & sons

With the forearm wedge and plates in place, why couldn't you shoot it ? I had a 1873 with a broken stock [ broke in the wrist ] and with some good wood glue, Titebond II, and some small copper wire wrapped around the repair, I shot it for a couple of weeks till I found another stock. The guys at the...

Re: Choke Measurement in 1889

The shot count is just what it says, nothing more. I have a couple of guns, one a 1894 F grade, with a jug choked barrel. When I bought it the right barrel was a skeet choke so I jug choked it back to Mod. I can't read the count on the lugs because I keep it over at the club. Someone could have open...

My mistake - serial # is 702, not 72. Still a early gun . :D

Nice job. I had thought of doing the same thing a number of times but never did it. I don't know what you find crude or wrong with the engraving on the trigger guard. Everything looks great to me -

Re: Whitmore Hammer Lifter re-stock

About the same gun as mine, but I have one with the straight grip. I'm surprised you made it with a pistol grip. Did the original one come with the PG stock ? Mine needs a refinishing, but at 73 years old I just feel like shooting it and not tying it up for a couple of years. Mine has the pattern Da...

Drew, thank you. I knew either one of you guys would come through. I just enjoy reading about early trap or live pigeon shooting. Thanks again. Paul

BP or nitro

Maybe Drew or Reseacher can answer when most shooters went from BP to nitro. When I say most shooters I mean shooters in competition like pigeon or clay birds. I've shot BP in SxS events where we do 50 SCs and 25 5-stand plus 25 skeet or trap. A fast round of 5-stand or trap makes the barrels get so...

Re: Trap shooting

Drew, thanks for putting all those one after the other. I've copied some of your previous post but they're on about 4 or 5 different pages. Soon as I can get out again to Office Depot I'll buy another printer and copy this post of yours. I like showing them over at the club to let guys know that SxS...

Trap shooting

Back in the 70s I use to shoot a lot of trap, and once I learned it, it seemed easy to shoot a 23, 24, or 25. I quit till just this year and man why it's so hard seems a mystery. Lately I've improved quite a bit, back in the 20s. The reason I started again was because I bought a Parker SBT. Now I tr...

Re: Remington 1889 SxS (1893 prod.) Restoration.

Sounds like twoshooter will take care of you. I have a 73, 82, 89, and six 94s. Remington barrels, Damascus and steel, were all good barrels. Some Damascus like on my C grade 94 were just fancier, not any stronger. Remington proofed all their barrels for nitro loads. Maybe the wood dried out a lot a...

There is a screw going from one lock to the other. How did the locks fall out from a crack ?
