Re: 44-90 & 44-100
Charlie, anytime you think the 44-77 might be short on power just load up with 90 gr of BP pushing a 420 gr PPB. Its easily done. And hold on to your hat!. And if Remington had recommened loading the 40-70 with 370 gr bullet as per the 40-90 Sharps and increased powder charges they might have had a ...

Whats the Heaviest Remington # 1 Sporter you know of
The 1875 catalog says available up to 15 lbs. But were there any? Any heavyweights in Marcot's book?

Send now! I'm sure he also has inherited a huge amount of money that he is trying to smuggle out of Nigeria and will gladly share with you .
I've been getting a bunch of this crap the last few days. Bet I've blocked a dozen domains.

Re: Remington Model 1-1/2 sport history
Hepburns are a completely different design. Search here, google, and then ask what you may. Look for books written by Roy Marcot. You can find them on the Remington Society webpage. Ned Roberts Book, the Single Shot Rifle De Haas on Single Shots You should be able to google and get the info you desi...

Re: Remington Model 1-1/2 sport history
Basically a slightly thinner action than the #1 and generally chamberings were confined to shorter length cartridges. In other words, no buffalo calibers. See a lot of them in Rimfire chamberings .

Re: Rem RB Question
Remguy, just out of curiosity what are the calibers of those two rifles. And please settle an argument, hopefully. I maintain that the stamping 44S on a sporter does not in anyway signify a Sharps caliber but rather Remington Special or System.....or was the 44 RS (44-90) the only one known as the R...

Round Top. Do you know offhand what the twist rate was/is for the 45-45 vs the 44-77?

Re: HELP! Remington Rolling Block
Lardog states that the measuring device he used shows a .450 bore. This is the nominal size before a 45 cal. barrel is rifled. A 44-77 nominal bore is around .440. A .450 plug will not go down any 44-77 barrel I have ever measured. Ed If Lardogs measurements are correct then perhaps its always been...

Re: HELP! Remington Rolling Block
Jerry, didn't LarDog report his as serial #725? Maybe I missed something.
And while that one on gunbroker may now be a 44-77 and a good shooter...evidence is pointing toward alteration. Did it have a single set trigger when you owned it?

Re: HELP! Remington Rolling Block
The rifle here was an original Adirondack model in 45-45-290 Remington sporting if the 45 stamp is authenic. A fairly scarce gun. This is the only 45 cal listed in the early ads and too early for a 45-70. Last patent would be 1868. These early rifles do not have the name and address on the barrel. ...

Re: 1879 Argentine factory overrun???
Its all about chambering. With .012-.013 thick brass made from either .348 BACO or 43 Spanish jameson I cannot chamber a .446 GG. Had to get .010 brass from RMC to do that. Still, at 30:1 it bumps right up into my .451 groove barrel. So now I use the RMC for greasers and the BACO & necked up Spa...
