Re: Pre-1898 numbers and dates
Hi Northtexan, I assume that you have tried a 44-40 in the chamber and it will not fit?. Has your pistol the small pinched foresight as the 1858 or new model percussion had, or is it a blade sight. This is really the only way I know for sure of identifying is as early or late. Having said that Roy M...

Re: Pre-1898 numbers and dates
Northtexan I apologise if I have made a mistake here. I assumed your pistol to be a later one due to the fact the early ones were not calibre marked as far as I am aware. I have two 1875s serial # 1021 and # 3780 no calibre mark on these. Just to confirm your pistol is an early one, Has it got a sta...

Re: Pre-1898 numbers and dates
Hi Northtexan, the 1875 was first produced in 1874 in 44 Remington serial # 1 to over 15800 about 1879 the 44-40 and 45 long colt calibres were added and the serial numbers went back to # 1 to over 1837. Given your serial number it would be reasonable to assume a manufacture date of 1879-80. As ther...

Re: Help please for origin of a Remington rolling block rifle
Should also have pointed out in original post that the barrel carries no crown mark or makers and Swedish inspectors mark which all Swedish made guns have. On taking another look at the rifle in question I note that the tm mark that I said was on barrel top is in fact a TN , eyes are not what they u...

Help please for origin of a Remington rolling block rifle
I have a Reminton rolling block which was inported to New Zealand two years ago by a dealer who I know well. I brought the rifle a few days after it was cleared thru customs and can confirm that it is, as imported;;. The gun is in very good condition overall with a shootable bore and only minimal da...

Re: Model 1875 45-40 Serial Number 808
Hi Ron, I think you will find that the number on your gun is serial no. To my knowlege the 1875 pistols started serial numbers with the 44 Remington and then restarted when they were made in 44-40 and 45 colt in the later stages. If I am correct, this would make your pistol, the 808th of the later g...

Re: Swedish Remington Calibres
50-70 cases can be made to fit the 12.17 Swedish. I do that already with my one. Problem is getting a mold to suit as 50cal is normally 512-515 whereas the Swede is507-8 Buffalo make a mold to suit and you can trim 50-70 cases to dimensions.
