Re: Sportsman 74 autoloader designed like the 742 or 7400???

The 74 is a lesser 7400 as the wood is stained hardwood and the metal work is not as spit and polished. They were only in 30-06 and have a less expensive site system. Otherwise they perform just as a 7400 would, just without the bells and whistles.

Re: Brush Guard Needs To Be Rotated Model on a 141 ????

My exploded view calls this the magazine plug plate which seems to be held on with a small shank large diameter plug plate screw from the front. Another view shows these 3 parts as one which then seems to be held by the small screw on the bottom side of the mag tube. I believe this screw would have ...

I don't know of any special tool. Get a screw driver that fits the screw very well or it'll slip and drive into your hand. :( Just a thought-do you own a chainsaw with a bar adjusting tool with a sparkplug socket on one end and a large slot driver on the other? This would give you some torque.

Your rifle was produced between '62 and '64 with all standard calibres having the 20" barrel. Unless its NIB, enjoy it. I don't call them carbines as that was all that was produced these 3 years. Some buyers go gaga over the short barrel and have driven the values of truly used guns way up. I h...

All 788s had walnut stocks into, I believe, the early '70s. The 12" LOP is not factory.

Between 2 and 3 hundred left the factory marked as such. A rare bird, one of the rarest 700s released to the public.

What makes it a factory blem? Supposedly none made it from the factory without the "MAG" being "XXX"ed out.

660-600

Somewhere I have in print that some 600s were released with 660 receivers, but can't put my hands on it.
