Re: Model 24 LR Headspace

Keep in mind that old guns in general have probably been worked on before and that incorrect parts may have installed or fitted incorrectly. Headspace is usually farther down the list of things that could be wrong, unless the barrel is not fully seated into the receiver. I would hold off spending mo...

Re: Model 24 LR Headspace

It has new style extractor and cartridge stop. I've had to replace some missing parts... Is it supposed to have the New Style extractor? I don't think the N/S are a direct substitution but rather one of numerous parts changes to the bolt assembly. Headspace can be check with gauges as mentioned abo...

Re: Model 510, 511 and 512- Won't stay cocked

Frequently it is worn where the Sear and Firing Pin engage. I would clean the parts well making sure to scrape off any crud. Check that the parts move freely, be sure to inspect pivot pins for damage. The Trigger Spring may be weak. There may not be a single problem so be sure to consider that sever...

Re: Model 722 LPR 6.5x284

Most likely a custom barreled rifle. Competitive shooters frequently build rather than buy target rifles.

Re: Remington Model number of attached barrel picture

I'm not sure of the model, but a relief cut was made to aid in the removal of the barrel. This cut makes it harder to use the barrel on another receiver.

Re: Removing Fore-End cap screw

The entire Action Tube is meant to be unscrewed. Open the action then look at the Action Tube, there are probably two holes that aid in disassembly.

Re: 1187 Super Mag Bolt

The Super Mag uses a longer bolt than the standard magnum. It may be more of a cosmetics issue than a functional one. The ejection port on the SM is longer, the longer bolt keeps things looking 'right'.

Re: Remington Model 25 Feeding problem

I have not had one of these apart in many years. I think the tube is threaded and that the set screw keeps it from unscrewing. A set screw alone would have a big job of holding the thin tube securely. The weight of the tube, it's parts and the ammo would all have to be held in place during the cycli...

Re: Remington Model 25 Feeding problem

It might be an issue with the magazine spring or the magazine follower. A magazine spring may need replaced or cleaned. A Fore-end Screw may be too long and is protruding into the mag tube and intercepting the Magazine Follower. Loosening the screws may reveal the problem, shortening the too-long sc...

Re: Checkering Patterns/Tool

You need to use a tool with the proper Lines Per Inch , usually marked as LPI. Measure across the top of the points, the number of points in a one inch distance is the LPI. Patterns are generally used to layout brand new checkering. For the work you describe a pattern should not be needed. You will ...

Re: "Slam"? fire, Model 725

After consulting with a couple of gunsmiths and remarms, and this forum. It seems the most probable cause is the trigger. Should I simply try to get a gunsmith to replace the trigger? If so what brand of trigger. Or should I have the rifle action disassembled and inspected to make sure there is not...

Model 851

These are mine and in my possession. Pics #1 and #2 show a model 851, I included pic #3 because it is more common and is probably recognizable, it is here for comparison to the first two pics. Circa 1949, what are your thoughts? The 851 designation was kept at the 1961 Redraw. The original model des...
