Re: REMINGTON .44 NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER OF 186?

Hi Mike, pleased to hear that the numbers on your pistol are a close match, as this will help to determine manufacture of barrel. I think we will have trouble working out who placed the barrel to the pistol as there are many possible scenarios out there. I have just now gone thru my reference books,...

Re: REMINGTON .44 NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER OF 186?

Hi again Mike, do a carefull check of the serial numbers on both barrel and frame, ie do they match in size and definition? . If they are close in comparison you may be able to assume that the barrel is an original replacement. Pics please of the serial numbers and I can then check against my own 63...

Re: Remington Army and Navy Revolvers 1861-1888

Hi Mike, best book for your interest would be the book from Roy Marcot, Remington Americas oldest gunmaker, a ton of info in this book. May be hard to get, but well worth the effort. The other one worth having is, Reminton Handguns by Karr and Karr, way out of date now but has good information in it.

Re: The New Collector's Guide of the Military Rolling Block

Sir George, many thanks for your consideration of my questions [remaining unanswered ] on my rolling block rifles. I will get some clear pics and email them through to you for your perusal. As to the chinese made rifles, I have not seen one here as yet. I have been collecting firearms for over forty...

Re: The New Collector's Guide of the Military Rolling Block

Mister George Layman sir, Many many thanks for your latest book on the Remington rolling block rifles. You have been a legend in my gunroom ever since I picked up your expanded edition of 92 around five years back. I have just received your latest book via an american friend residing in New Zealand ...

Hi Mike, the six numeral number on the barrel would indicate very late manufacture date . Also, will you be able to post pics of the pistol on this forum.

Re: 1889 with cut barrels

Nice gun and in good condition as well. I note the difference between pic four and five of the action shots. Case hardening showing in pic four but not five? is this gun or camera? Anyway these are my favorite Remington doubles. Sorry change five to four in pics.

Re: Help please for origin of a Remington rolling block rifle

ehull, many thanks for your reply regarding the TN mark as it has confirmed to me that the rifle is, in fact, Remington made. I had always felt that the gun was Remington from the time I purchased it and with very close inspection of the barrel\receiver struck mark I could not detect any change of b...

Re: Help please for origin of a Remington rolling block rifle

Thankyou ehull for your reply to this post, Very interesting that you have one of these rifles. Question? would your one have the TN on the barrel just forward of receiver and is it possible that Remington made the barrel for this rifle, which would make almost American.

Re: 1858 Civilian Model?

Hi again Jine, I have four new models, serial numbers 25482 27254 68906 and 99693. The later one is a conversion to centerfire, but the rest would be civil war era and not a cartouch to be seen on any of them. All have the Remington address and all but one, the one I mentioned to you, are clear with...

Re: 1858 Civilian Model?

Hi again, in your initial post you stated all serial numbers match. This tells me that you have removed the grips to reveal the frame number and that is the same as barrel number. One other possibility is that the pistol may have been refurbished at some time well past. Pictures show a nice age pati...

Re: 1858 Civilian Model?

Hi , given the serial number of your pistol, manufacture would be in the middle of the civil war when the Remington plant would have been full on producing arms for the war effort and therefore unlikely producing guns for civilian trade. Also, to my knowlege, all Remington sold pistols have typical ...
