339xxx would fit nicely right between
3360xx 722 308 E ZZ 10/53
346xxx 721-270 X ZZ 12/53
I bet the letters are E ZZ

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Thanks. I see the serial number is outside on the front receiver ring. I have posted it in our list by the serial number.
Is the rear receiver ring tapped on top for a scope base?

Re: 721 722 725 dates of mfg
Sounds like it could be original. They did make a 721 264 24" stainless barrel (blackened color). Screw on rear barrel sight. If it says 721 on the receiver and 264 on the barrel, you should be good to go. See the first page post here to note the serial number range you should find on it.

Woolly
If still original, your 4203xx 270 is a Transition type. Has screw mounted rear barrel sight with no hump and dovetail. 22" barrel. Great gun.

JB
Thanks for the oldest for our list so far (3/2011)
The incomplete serial number is mostly for privacy.
Some believe ill mannered persons might use a complete serial for fraud or something.
I would say to keep the older one intact and convert the newer rifle. 6.5-284 is an excellent cartridge.

Re: My Rems
Larry Brace certainly did. This 280 is just a simple re-barrel. But Larry trued the action and all that. And he did the work in exchange for a M70 action I had. I also have two M70 stocks Larry recheckered and cleaned up. These were amongst his very last projects. They will always be very dear to me.

There was a tool ring in he chamber close in front of the belt. Oil wiped on each round in that location would allow extraction. I reb...
