1962 Model 700 Carbine .222 Magnum

While recently visiting one of my local gun shops and perusing along the used bolt-action section, I spied an early Model 700 ADL in excellent condition in the rack. When I picked it up I immediately noticed it had a 20" barrel! Then, looking at the caliber designation on the barrel, I nearly f...

Re: Remington Model Seven ???

Wulfman, You are right about the XCR model, except it had a light contour barrel and mine is magnum contour. I looked at the barrel date code again with a magnifying glass and believe it is OB, which places date of manufacture at 2007, soon after discontinuance of the model 673. I am theorizing that...

Re: Remington Model Seven ???

I don't believe it is a cobbled-up piece. For one thing, I can find no reference to Remington ever offering a stainless Model Seven with a fluted barrel(med./heavy contour). The stock, as I said, is identical to the stock they used on the Model 673(laminated w/wide stripes), and the barreled action ...

Remington Model Seven ???

Hello All. Just returned from our local gun show with a new toy and hoping some of you can shed some light on a 'mystery' Model Seven I acquired. The dealer didn't know a lot about it other than the guy he got it from said it was a non-catalogued item and called a 'Seven LSS SF Custom'. It is a 7mm-...

Re: Getting my first rifle Remington 770

My advice is to steer clear of the 770 and 710 models. I work in a large gun shop and these models have been nothing but a headache. I can't believe Remington continues to put them out. They are a bulky, heavy, crude, piece of crap, in my opinion. At least every other one we sell comes back with a p...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

rmwright1: The Model 660 serial numbers are a confusing mess! Since the Model 600 serial numbers ended in the 90,000 range or so, it makes some sense that Remington may have continued with the sequence for a while. However, at some point in time they adopted a seven number serial range for the 660s....

Re: Remington 700 Titanium(1st Model)

You are wrong on both counts. I have ordered and owned two Custom Shop guns, and neither had any markings indicating such on the barrels! Second, to compare the 700 Titanium to a 700 Mountain rifle is like comparing a Corvette to a Chevy Impala. My Titanium 700 has a fit and finish far ahead of a pr...

Re: Remington 700 Titanium(1st Model)

The current Titanium is not the same gun as the original, first issued in 2001, and listed as discontinued in 2006. It is a heavier gun altogether, so I am told. I just talked to a fellow who has two 1st models, and he has spoken to Remington on several occasions regarding them, and they told him th...

Remington 700 Titanium(1st Model)

I just picked up a Remington 700 Titanium in .30-06 in like-new condition. My research indicates this model was only offered for about five years, 2001-2006. Mine has a distinct four-digit serial number, with the prefix of TT. Were these rifles turned out by the Custom Shop? Any idea how many were m...

Re: VTR308

Glad to hear you found a VTR that will shoot. I bought one when they first appeared and tried every possible combination of loads. Best I could get out of it was about 1.5", and it averaged closer to 2.5". Pretty poor for a .308, in my estimation. I work in a large gun shop and these rifle...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

You are absolutely right! The 660 and 660 were ahead of their time, and although pundits have said that the gun writers' criticisms at the time were responsible for the lack of sales, I don't think thats wholly true. Many writers praised these little guns. One I remember in particular was the Wyomin...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

On the left side of barrel just in front of receiver is the number 96. What you say is probably true, it just seems strange that they seem to have come so near to the end of production. Perhaps Remington over-estimated the popularity of the 'magnum' model 660s, as they sold only a fraction as many a...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

Update: Checked out the barrel date code on my 660 in .308 with factory laminated stock, and determined it was made in June 1971. Since this was right at the tail end of production of the model 660, I think it kind of confirms my belief that Remington was using up a supply of the 'magnum' stocks by ...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

remington600: You bring up another point regarding the 660s that has baffled me. Thats the matter of serial numbers. Somewhere along the way, Remington made a dramatic change in the serializing of this model. Many of the 660s have six-digit numbers such as yours, and others have seven-digit numbers? ...

Re: Model 660 Non-Magnum Laminated Stocks?

600RemGuy: That isn't the case here, as these non-magnum versions have stocks with no recoil pads(which all the magnums had), and they do not have sling studs(also on the magnum models). They were definately made up specially by Remington, but thats not to say that there aren't some floating around ...
