Re: 1873 whitmore price check
Well I waited a while and finally was able to buy this for 8 bills. Maybe I overpaid but Im stuck with it now. Its only cosmetic issues that are the detractors. Poor storage left some heinous rust stains and slight etching of outside of barrels. Im thinking of just going over the tubes with scotch b...

Re: 1873 whitmore price check
I appreciate all your replies...the stock crack doesn't scare me so much as the rust. It has dime sized spots on the outside and one barrel is kinda ragged at the muzzle im pretty confident it will not clean up without leaving heavy pits. I would really like to add one to my collection but not sure ...

1873 whitmore price check
Found a grade 3 nice tite lockup clean shiney bores no barrel dents or buggered screws. The bad is spots of rust and pitting on barrels looks pretty deep at muzzle and a stock crack from left lockplate up to top tang. Asking 1100 thats seems way too high for one with issues. Would i be correct?

Re: 1885 owners
I dont think so. There is a a seam but it fits so well that i can only see it by some oil seaping from it. Also the factory engraving lines up perfectly on the top. So def not a later repair.

Re: 1885 owners
Yes ...I have one that believe is grade 6. I have found very little info on them and I thought the Charles Semner book was lacking. For instance, on my 12ga the breech face is flat where all other remingtons of that era have a protrusion from the barrel top rib that fits a notch in between the firin...
