Re: My ring trigger 32

It is a fun little thing to shoot. It may be small, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of those four .32 slugs at card table distance.

Re: My ring trigger 32

I know this is an old thread. But I thought you guys might enjoy the video I made of me shooting my ring trigger.

Re: R.B. CARBINE.

I've loaded 43-45gr of 2F in my 50-45s with a Rapine 350 bullet. It shoots quite well. Mine is a put-together and the extractor stud was broken. I milled it off, built it back up by welding. Then re-machined the stud. Here is a video range testing it after the repair.

Re: 58 Roberts

I just saw this thread. I too have a .58 Roberts Transformed rifle. I've looked closely, but found no SC stamps anywhere. It appears to be pretty well beat up on the outside, but has an excellent bore. It makes me think that it could have been used as a drill rifle at some point. But regardless of t...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB (corrected: .58 Roberts)

I don't recall the bore diameter, but groove diameter is about .594" at the muzzle and .602" ahead of the chamber. So my .590" bullet is quite small. Next time I may go up to 55gr. of goex 2f or try Swiss or Old Eynsford for a little more bump up.

Re: .58 Berdan RRB (corrected: .58 Roberts)

I finally received the lathe turned cases for my rifle. I bought some .590" diameter, 490gr. minie balls to start out with. But the cases were so thick at the case mouth that I could not seat the bullet. So I had to bore the cases to accept them. I just did 5 to try them out. http://i1277.photo...

Re: Smooth bore #4

I can't help with the smoothbore question. But I can tell you that I have two #4s. One in .22 that I had relined by Redman's many years ago. It is a tack driver now. The other is a .32 that I converted from rimfire to centerfire. I shoot .32 Long Colt in it and it is proving to be very accurate. The...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

Tom - thanks, got it. I'm still waiting for my cases to arrive. They got sent to California instead of Virginia. They are on their way back to Connecticut, then will be sent to Virginia... I hope. This has been very frustrating. But unless another SNAFU occurs, I should have them late this week or e...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

tjack - those sound like nice references to have handy. Thanks for the specs. But I'm confused by the bullet and case mouth sizes. You said the bullet is .612" and case mouth is .610". So the bullet is larger than the mouth? Is this a heeled bullet? I found a couple photos of original .58 ...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

tjack - thanks for the measurements. They are pretty similar to mine except for the length. I remeasured the length of my chamber by inserting a .625" diameter plug into the chamber until it seated firmly up against the rifling. It measured right about 1.400", a little longer than my earli...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

Yes, it is centerfire. I thought the wide breechblock faces was molded in, but I just looked at it under a magnifier and there is indeed a plate morticed into the front of the block. .58 Roberts CF? wow that's a new one for me. I was thinking it was close to the .58 carbine, perhaps similar. I wish ...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

I took a few more photos tonight. I measured the rim recess again and it varies a little, but runs .772 - .776" using a digital caliper. Here is a shot of the breech with a steel rule layed across for reference. You can see the rim recess is over 3/4". http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

I measured the chamber diameter using telescoping gauges and a micrometer. The chamber length was measured using a caliper, as was the rim diameter. The chamber length was a little difficult to measure this way, but its pretty close. The other measurements I took several times and am confident in th...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

I just took measurements of the chamber: Chamber length 1.335" Diameter at mouth: .6315" Diameter at head: .6565" Rim: .772" I was expecting a longer chamber. The .58 Berdan is listed with varying chamber lengths of 1.68" - 1.75". Mine seems more suitable to the .58 Mus...

Re: .58 Berdan RRB

Tjack - thanks for the reply. Its a shame Ray Rapine has retired with no successor. I've bought several molds from him over the years. What kind of accuracy are you getting with that minie? I wondered what the purpose of the long lower tang was. I hadn't thought it was something as simple as that. W...
