Rifle Combination or Field Tools
Does anyone know of a book (or perhaps even a web site) that would help me identify the growing number of military rifle “combination tools” I’ve managed to accumulate? I’m referring to the small pocket-sized tools issued with military rifles, carbines, and pistols in the 19th Century, often includi...

Re: Remington 1879 Argentine Rifle Sling
Thanks. Kenn is a good friend, and I’ve bought “Rolling Block” parts from him. Very knowledgeable and invariably helpful. For some reason, I never thought to ask him about slings.

Remington 1879 Argentine Rifle Sling
I have a Remington Model 1879 Argentine contract rifle. Do we have any idea what a sling used with one of these rifles looked like? If so, are there any makers ou there producing a reasonable facsimile of such a sling?

Remington 1-1/2 "Rolling Block"
I’ve tried to search the forum for this one without success. I have a 1-1/2 RRB rifle that has been rechambered and relined (per my instruction) to .44/40 Winchester. I own a copy of Roy Marcot’s excellent book on RRB sporting rifles, and the chapter on the Remington 1-1/2 rifle is excellent. Howeve...

Re: Identification Help
The definitive work for identifying Remington “Rolling Block” sporting rifles is “Remington Rolling Block Rifles, Carbines & Shotguns; Sporting and Target Rifles,” by Roy Marcot, Jay Lewis, et al. I don’t have mine in front of me right now, so I may be off a year or so, but the Number 2 sporting...

Re: Remington RB No 1 Creedmoor
You may very well have what is generally referred to now as a "44-90" (2-5/8-inch case). This should not be confused--and easily can be--with the 44/77 (2-1/4-inch case), as the latter was sometimes loaded with something approaching 90 grains of powder behind a very shallow-seated paper pa...

Re: Number 2 in .22 rimfire.
Pictures of the sights (barrel and front), barrel markings, top tang markings (if any--unlikely, underneath the tang sight base) and the forend tip would help with estimating the rifle's age. The "half moon" swells on the grip area and the rear of the forend indicate relatively early produ...

Re: RB questions
I believe the only thing original is the action, which looks like a standard #1 sporter. It could, I suppose, be a reconfigured early #1 military done by someone who really knew what they were about--sculpting the trigger guard, making the receiver rebate, faceting the receiver ring, etc. But I don'...

Remington Number 2 Rifle Questions
I have a Remington Number 2 “Rolling Block” rifle about which I have some questions. It is my understanding that Remington’s records from prior to 1921 were destroyed in a fire, so information on earlier weapons is chancy at best. My rifle is in .22 Rimfire and, except for having the badly corroded ...

Just Joined--Black Powder Cartridge Shooter
As a shooter of several original Remingtons and clones, I hope to find some additional information here. Check my question on the pre-1899 rifles room.
