I just sold my 550-1, it did not have a serial number, as it was pre-1967, and did not require one. (I think 1967 was the year ATF passed that law). The rear sight ladder should be very easy to find @ a gun show, I'd check w/ Numrich Arms (e-gun parts, as the previous person advised), or check on Gu...

Thanks for the replies! -I thought of that, especially since the serial # is too high for Remington, and fits into Eddyston'es range. Remington Model of 1917

Hi- I'm a brand new member, hope someone can help!! I have recently purchased a Remington "Model of 1917" .30-06. The rifle is odd in the fact that the serial number (6581XX) is higher than Remington's recorded serial #'s accepted by the US Gov't. It also does not have the smudge pot/burst...
