Remington Rider D/A with Fluted Cylinder?
Hi folks, been away from the Forum for a while, but have a new question. Flayderman says (5E-026) that the “Remington-Rider Double Action New Model Belt Revolver,” with a "fluted" cylinder, is one of the “earliest production” models, with only “a few hundred produced” and that it would hav...

Re: Who used the "CGC" Cartouche on the 1st Revolver Contract?
Thanks Mike, that’s really interesting and convincing. Follow-up related question: I have seen at least two Remington Beals Navy Revolvers in the 14000 range, with some “C” sub-inspectors initials on major parts (as well as other initials on the other major parts), and one in the 16000 range with a ...

Who used the "CGC" Cartouche on the 1st Revolver Contract?
Who did the "CGC" cartouche really belong to on Remington's early revolvers? Don Ware says in his book that “C.G. Curtis” was the “principle sub-inspector” at Remington during their turbulent June- August 1862 period, and stamped his cartouche “CGC” on each .36 Beals Navy and .44 Model 186...

Auction of US Marked and Inspected Remington Beals Navy
Hi folks, Interesting “US Marked and Inspected Remington Beals Navy” up at auction – see website below. If this were a Colt Navy percussion, in this condition, and one of only 500 “US Marked and Inspected” for the Army, it would be worth at least twice (maybe 3 times) the price, I’ll bet. Does anybo...

Re: Remington Navy Model 1867 Rolling Block Pistol Marking?
Thanks Matt, appreciate the info. I now need to do some reading to try to put a "story" behind this old pistol. Thanks again, Tom

Re: Remington Navy Model 1867 Rolling Block Pistol Marking?
Thanks a lot! Wonder why Flayderman didn't include these other two inspectors? Does Landskron's book give dates (from - to) for JMB Clitz as an Inspector?
Is "Remington Rolling Block Pistols" the actual title of the book? About when published?
Thanks again for you input.... Tom

Remington Navy Model 1867 Rolling Block Pistol Marking?
I am looking at a Remington Navy Model 1867 Rolling Block Pistol. It has the anchor, P, FCW, I and, lastly. a relatively clear “J.M.B.C.;” however, Flaydermann says the last marks should be “W.D.W.” or “H.E.” and does not mention a “J.M.B.C.” stamp. Is “J.M.B.C.” also a valid marking for a 1867 Roll...

Re: Need info on a U.S. Navy, Beals Navy Model conversion
J.D., I guess the “Cs” on my old gun will just remain a bit of a mystery. I agree that they are about the size of sub-inspectors initials I’ve seen on other guns, so maybe they are “something new” on this Beals. Since you have all three models of Remington Navies, and know them well, would you mind ...

Re: Need info on a U.S. Navy, Beals Navy Model conversion
Thanks so much, JD, for responding. My compliments on the number of Remington conversions you have collected – I think the US Navy conversion pieces in particular are rather neglected. They were Remington’s only government contract for converted revolvers according to the known records, and they the...

Re: Need info on a U.S. Navy, Beals Navy Model conversion
Understand Jay, I'm so sorry about Don and I certainly won't bother him. Wish I'd had my Beals Navy conversion back when I did meet Don, he was so full of energy back then, and really knows these old revolvers. To have actually talked to him about it would have been great! However, is Mike Strietbec...

Need info on a U.S. Navy, Beals Navy Model conversion
I have acquired a .38 center-fire Beals Navy Model conversion with what appears to have very old, even, and honest patina on all of its parts, but which has several unusual characteristics. Using material from Flayderman (5E-010.6), and Don Ware’s really excellent “Remington Army and Navy Revolvers,...
