DOM: Model 12 - CS etc.

I have an old Model 12. Didn't pay very much for it. I thought it might be a good rifle to fiddle with, clean up, etc. But, I'm a bit puzzled. The octagon barrel is marked "Model 12-CS" on top... "22Rem Special" just a bit in from of the receiver. The bottom of the receiver shows...

Model 700 Date of Manufacture

I think I'm missing something on the "How to Date" chart. I have a virtually new Model 700, 7mm Rem Mag. SN is B6742053. The chart has me confused. Can someone help figure this out?
Thanks for your attention.

Re: Model 12-A UhOh!

Hi" umcpumpgun"! Thanks for tip. Looking between the mag tube and the barrel I see the retainer you've mentioned. I have a hunch that when the stock dries I'll put it back together and see if it'll function properly. If it does, OK...if it doesn't, off to the smithy I go. Thanks again for ...

Model 12-A UhOh!

I'm almost done doing what I wanted to do with this Model 12-A. The wood looks fine, the parts are clean and things are moving right along (with this form's help, I have to say). Then I picked up the receiver, barrel attached with bolt in place, and a short piece of metal dropped out! I tool the bol...

Re: Removing Varnish - Thanks!

Thanks for taking time to think about this. I really appreciate it. I tried some denatured alcohol and that didn't work. But...after thinking about still wool, very fine grit sandpaper and stuff like that. Key word: "abrasive." I went into the kitchen, grabbed the Comet and a plastic brist...

Removing Varnish

Working on a 12-A. Somewhere along the all the wood was heavily varnished...without removing the wood from the metal. Thanks to brush marks, drips and runs It needed doing. Wood (I've left all honorable dings, scratches and dents), and metal has been done without damaging the patina. Problem is the ...

Another Model 12-A Sight Questions

My Model 12-A has a flip-up tang site (2 screws) and a front sight. The rear slot is empty. I've seen some 12's with all three sights. Is there a "correct" configuration? Is the sight a Lyman R-12? Next: Should the sight have an eyepiece of some sort or a simple peep with a slight elevatio...

Need Help Dating a Model 12-A

I'm new here, but a long time Remington fan. Right now I have several Model 12's. And now I've time to fiddle with them. The problem is with a Model 12-A. None of the marks, codes, etc appear on this rifle. I have a serial number on the bottom of the receiver where the slide enters ( 513XXX ) and th...
