Re: Replacement sight parts for Rolling Block
It has taken some time but I found a source. I stumbled upon Frontier Americana of Fargo North Dakota. They deal in everything original from Lewis and Clark to Theodore Roosevelt time periods. They have a gunsmith out of Minnesota who rebuilds gun sights. I shipped the sight to them last week and lo...

Replacement sight parts for Rolling Block
I need to replace a "Pin and Bead" post type apperature in a Beech Combination Sight. I have sent an e mail to Axtell and nothing there. Any others out there besides Lone Star or Montana Vintage Arms? Buffalo Arms gets parts from Montana Vintage so that is not working. Thanks for any help.

Re: Need help to identify rolling block rifle. NEW INFO ADDED.
A gunsmith by the name of Allen K. Horst of Great Falls Montana is pretty darn good at remaking any old rife but rather nice at these old remington rolling blocks. a couple of his rifles can be seen for sale on gunbroker.com. They are being sold by a Pawnshop called Lakota Pawn and sell for several ...

Re: Hepburn or Rolling Block Sights - Questions
Hello, As for me I found Remington Replicas at Montana Vintage Arms. Notably the "rough and ready" rear sight. My Rolling Block has a Beach Combination sight and I am trying to find "orignal" type "pin and bead" post to replace the one I BROKE. The above mention book by...

Re: 722 slam fire trigger nad loose barrel......
Hello, Did you get a three day inspection when you purchased the rifle on GunBroker.com? This is customary. If you are not satisfied send the rifle back. As far as correcting this defect by yourself. If you own other Remingtons 721/722/725, take a trigger from one of them and see if it changes what ...

Re: 1871 springfield RB ?
a bit of information. I recently started the process of getting ammo for my rolling block that was marked 40-70 just in front of the forend on the bottom flat of the octogon barrel. I ordered a couple of 40-70 sharps bottleneck cases (from Buffalo Arms) to see if they fit. THEY did not fit! turns ou...

Re: Remington Number 2 Rifle Questions
hello, I was born and spent most of my 58 years in whitfish, mt. don't be too discouraged if you do not get much information about history and such on a remington rolling block. I sent a detailed description to remington on my rollingblock and got a useful but not helpful general production run info...

Re: Rolling block with a wiping stick???
Hello, I do not know much about what you are asking but as a new rolling block shooter I was thinking maybe i need to get a wood dowl about the same diameter as my barrel to use it as a cleaning stick after each shot! thanks for the idea! Tony K

Re: Replacement sights for Model 1 Sporting Rifle
Hello, I had to travel through Montana so I stopped at Montana Vintage Arms to talk with them about my RRB. The parts I ordered were the correct replacement parts. They had never seen a sight like mine in "person" but in a book called "Old Gunsights, A collector's Guide 1850-1965"...

Re: Hepburn .40 1 7/8 chamber specs needed
Hello, I had a lot of trouble trying to figure out my chamber and caliber on my Remington Rolling Block. I have the 40-70 Remington Bottleneck and this is very different from the 40-70 Sharps Bottleneck. I found the book "Shooting Buffalo Rifles of the Old West" by Mike Venturino to be ver...

Re: Identifying, dating and valuing Remington Rolling Block
I recently wrote to Remington about my #1 sporter. Remington stated they had no records on individual rifles but in general the #1 sporter was made from 1868 to 1888 with abut 12,000 rifles fitting this description! MIne has a 4 digit number(6016) perpendicular across the bottom tang near the last s...

Re: Replacement sights for Model 1 Sporting Rifle
Tom, Since I posted I called Montana Vintage Arms and found they had lots of stuff for Remingtons! I ordered an Iris set and nut that fits on my "mast". I should be up and ready soon! By the way the rear sight is called the "rough and ready" but it is not a dove tail. Ammo for 45...

Re: Replacement sights for Model 1 Sporting Rifle
Tom, Forgot to mention my rolling block does not have a rear sight dovetail. It is taped for screws. I keep reading and hearing of a "common" sight for Remingtons called the "Rough and Ready" sight. This would apply to my sights, I think. The use of a dovetail rear is common but ...
